Well here we are, in April. We are living through an unprecedented time as the situation with COVID-19 grows more challenging. Everyone in our community (and the world) is now dealing with very real and significant risks and impacts. If I’m being honest, I’m anxious and uncertain of what will come next. I long to return to what used to be our normal.
I’m also amazed. I am in awe of what you have all done to help each other. As marketers, our goal is to communicate a message, a feeling and to get people to act. To see all of you step up in a time like this and use your skills to help restaurants, healthcare providers and small businesses moves me to tears. It gives me hope that we will rebound. To exhaust the phrase, it reminds me that we’re all in this together.
When I wrote last month, I let you guys know we were already facing some issues as a club. Since then, we’ve cancelled two events and become even more uncertain about the future of our organization. I realize there are people facing much bigger problems. I also realize there are people that need help more than we do right now. The fact of the matter is, we will not be able to sustain if we cannot repair the financials.
At this time, we’ve decided to move forward with our AdBID online auction (April 20th). If you are looking for a way to advertise your services, and you are able, I encourage you to donate. If you are a business or non-profit seeking discounted advertising services or goods, I encourage you to bid. We can still use this as a way to help each other. Maybe bid on a gift basket and gift it to a first responder? Or purchase a gift card from a local restaurant to donate?
We do understand, again, that AAF Toledo is not your top priority right now. We totally get it. We’re just trying to do what we can so that we’re still here for you when this is all over. We want to welcome you back with networking events, student mentorship opportunities, awards honoring your talents. We just can’t do that if we don’t hit our auction goal.

We are discussing virtual events and educational opportunities, and we continue to re-evaluate our value to you, our members.
