Let’s start this one off with a BIG congratulations to all of the AAF Toledo ADDY Award recipients. We are honored to be able to recognize and showcase Northwest Ohio’s best creative talent in a wide variety of advertising, marketing and public relations categories at the historic Valentine Theatre. A special thank you Madhouse for partnering with us to design and deliver the INSPO creative that you saw leading up to (and at) the show. I would also like to thank HOT Graphics for printing the materials, including the stunning black-on-black invites, and my team at Mail Works for printing the winners' booklet. Thank you to everyone who entered and to those who contributed to and/or attended the show.
March is coming in like a lion in terms of AAF Toledo events. We have our Lunch & Learn on Wednesday, March 18 at Hensville featuring two people who know their way around an ADDY podium. Melissa Wehrman and Nick Amrhein will be joining us to share the stories behind some of their most impactful campaigns. Register today.
We are also looking forward to our annual bowling tournament, AdPIN, on Friday, March 20! We’ve had to move the location (due to the previous no longer existing), but we’re excited to be able to open the event up to more teams! Get your team together and register while there’s still time! If you’re solo, email firstname.lastname@example.org to see if we can match you up with someone who needs a teammate.
Now, we need to talk about something serious…
It’s not fun to share that over the past six years that I’ve been on the AAF Toledo board, we’ve seen our membership numbers slowly follow declining trends. We, the board, understand that in a world of Facebook groups, professional development podcasts, and virtual networking, it can be hard to stay relevant as a professional development group.
This has taken its toll financially on the club, to the point where I feel it necessary to be transparent with all of you about it. Especially since one change that will be obvious to you is the appointment of our new Director, Kelly Hahn. Kelly was previously a board member and has offered to step into a limited role to help us cut costs. The board will need to step up to fulfill the remainder of the responsibilities, so you may see more direct communication with board members in the future. We will sit down together in July (the new membership year) and re-evaluate the position at that time. We really appreciate Darcie’s time with us and wish her luck with her future endeavors.
So that might get us through the year, but even if it does, we know we need to make changes. It will take time for us to do this the right way. So, get ready for us to be sending surveys, asking questions, and overall just digging deeper into how we can increase the value of our organization to you, our membership. If you would like to be a part of that conversation, we would love your input! Just reach out to Kelly at email@example.com.
How can you help?
To ensure we can get far enough to even execute these changes, we MUST have a successful AdBID. This online auction is our most important fundraiser and allows us to continue to support educational programming and social events. Right now, we’re accepting donation items, and we need a lot more of them! If you are willing and able to contribute any media packages, creative services, unwanted items, gift cards, gift baskets, etc., please contact Kelly. You can also help by bidding! The auction will go live on April 20 and closes April 29.
If there is an event or a part of AAF Toledo that you want to make sure stays around, you can help by joining the corresponding committee. You don’t have to be on the board to join a committee, but you do need to be a board member to Chair a committee. We currently have a board opening, and would love to hear from you if you’re interested.
