February Message from the President

Posted by Director on January 31, 2020

I had never heard of AAF (or AdClub, because at the time, that’s what the club was called) until I was given my first ADDY awards ticket. I was starting my career and didn’t know a ton about the local advertising community and boom! Just like that, I was hooked. Seeing all of the amazing creative that came out of our area at the time completely blew me away.

I left that show with a hunger to create. I was so inspired and so hopeful for my future in an area where amazing campaigns were born. I’ve attended the show almost every year since, and I love that I still always leave inspired and hungry to create. If you’ve been to the show, you know exactly what I mean! If you haven’t, you have to go this year. The show is February 20th at The Valentine Theatre and I can’t wait to see you all there!

I’m excited so I’m jumping ahead. What happened last month? Well, we spent most of our time working on the ADDY Awards competition. Overall, we received 160 professional entries and 26 student entries that were scored by three judges brought in from cities outside of our market.  Click here to see the winners.  Now we’re just working to get everything in order for the big show! How can you help? I’m glad you asked—we have some great sponsorship opportunities that would help us put on another awesome event.

We did take a mid-January break from the ADDY grind to have an awesome luncheon. Over 60 attendees gathered in the super cool space generously donated by MadAve Group to hear Silver Medal Winners (and design legends) Terry Lesniewicz and Dan Weeks share stories and drop some knowledge. Everyone learned a little, laughed a little, cried a little and even took home a little screwdriver (courtesy of our 2019-2020 Program Series Sponsor, PromoHits). If you missed it, you should be really bummed because it was seriously good.

Looking ahead, you should recruit your 5-person team and reserve your spot now for AdPIN. Always a member-favorite, the event will be held on Friday, March 20. Note that since there is no longer a Rossford Lanes (sadness), this year we will be moving to Interstate Lanes, which is also in Rossford. We’re still looking for a couple of super fun companies to be our Koozie Sponsor and Music Sponsor for the event. Please email director@aaftoledo.org if you’re interested.

Best of luck to all of the ADDY entrants! See you all at the show!
